GARRY JONES & BRIAN O’NEILL AWARD ​
The North American Micropaleontology Section (NAMS) of SEPM is pleased to solicit applications for the 2016 Garry Jones & Brian O’Neill Memorial Grant for NAMS Student Research. The Grant is an annual award available to one NAMS student member to support research with a substantial micropaleontologic component. For 2016, the amount of the award is $1500.

Award Criteria: The student‘s research must involve one or more micropaleontology disciplines including foraminifers, nannofossils, diatoms, radiolarians, pollen, spores, dinoflagellates or conodonts. Projects may apply micropaleontology to traditional fields such as biostratigraphy, paleoecology, and paleoceanography or to rapidly expanding fields like biogeochemistry and geomicrobiology. The NAMS Council of Officers will rank the proposal based on scientific merit, faculty recommendation, and financial need. The grant will partially support a M.S. or Ph.D. research project that is not funded through other major grants. Applicants must be student members of NAMS.

Award Application: Interested students should submit the required Application Form A and Form B, a page summary of his/her research, a Curriculum Vitae, and a budget. A supporting letter of reference from the applicant‘s faculty advisor must be provided separately to the address below. Please note that travel to meetings or conferences are not supported by this award.

Industrial & Environmental Applications in Micropaleontology

A large number of specialized academics from Greece and around the world staff the postgraduate programme "Industrial and Environmental Applications in Micropaleontology" (IdEA-M).
​
You will be trained in the main microfossil groups (nannofossils and coccolithophores, foraminifera, pollen, dinoflagellates and other palynomorphs, ostracods, siliceous microfossils etc.) and their applications.
​
This is a multidisciplinary, combined taught (lectures and practicals) and research based (long project) MSc course covering Biostratigraphy, Applied and Industrial Micropaleontology, and Environmental Micropaleontology that provides training skills for the energy industry: exploitation, renewable sources, decarbonization- alongside the environmental monitoring and past climatic variability.

IdEA-M course is based in the Laboratory of Historical Geology and BioGeosciences in the Department of Geology & Geoenvironment, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece.
