FORAMS 2026 continues the tradition of the highly successful international symposia on foraminifera. The first one, Benthos '75, was held in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The name change to 'FORAMS' began with the meeting in Berkeley, California in 1994. The University of Massachusetts Amherst is proud to host the first FORAMS symposium in North America in 32 years. This important scientific event is scheduled for the week of June 21-26, 2026.
FORAMS 2026 will feature oral and poster sessions on a wide range of research areas including studies of biology and genomics, environmental sensitivity and biomonitoring, biomineralization, evolution, biostratigraphy and taxonomy, paleoecology, paleogeography, and paleoceanography. We will offer several field trips to choose from. FORAMS 2026 will also celebrate 200 years since the first paper on foraminiferal research was published by French naturalist Alcide d'Orbigny (1826, Tableau méthodique de la classe des Céphalopodes) in which he formally classified and named the group.

Painting by Thomas Cole, 1836, "View from Mount Holyoke, Northampton, Massachusetts, after a Thunderstorm", commonly known as "The Oxbow".
